I can’t lie to y’all…

This past week was not the best for me.

It felt like the fight of my life because I struggled with EVERYTHING!

Anxiety was screaming at me , “You won’t make it. You’ll never be good enough. They won’t like you. What if you mess up?”

Anger boiled inside of me, waiting to pop off on anyone in its way.

Bitterness tried to bite back.

And my impatience was on 10 with everything I had to do.

If I could sum up my week in one word, it would be frustration.

I felt exhausted, sad, and lastly defeated.

I could only ask “Why me and why now?”. It felt like for the past several months, things were falling into place. I mean even last week HOAPK launched as a podcast! (Listen here!!)

But through every trial and tribulation, I question why this happens.

So, I turned to the only book where I would find my answer: my B-i-b-l-e (that’s the book for me). And look what at what it says:

James 5:10 KJV: “Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.”

Meaning, if those selected by God, to speak His words to the people, suffer affliction, so will we who know Christ now. Jesus endured persecution, hatred, and death because of His message to the world. Sometimes, we like to believe that once you enter the body Christ that everything becomes sunshine and rainbows. However, this is not the case. We are not exempt from going through afflictions that others faced because of their belief in God. In John 17, as Jesus prayed for his disciples and those who come to know Him, He said this in verses 14-15:

¹⁴ I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that shouldest keep them from the evil.

Just as the Son prayed for his disciples, knowing that they would endure hardship because of the road ahead, we are reminded of our own journey that we will endure because of our love for Christ. John 17:22 reads,

²² And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:

So we wait, with patience, because in the end we come out victorious. WE have the help to overcome because of Christ Jesus.

Look at verse 11 of James 5: “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.“

Still don’t get it? Let’s read the NLT version of verse 11: “ We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.”

If you don’t know the story of Job, his day went from bad to worse in what seems like 0.2 seconds, but he remained faithful to God through it all and never went against him (Job 1:6-2:13). Job’s faith was on trial and because of it he struggled, experienced grief, and his own wife told him he should just curse God and die (Job 2:9), but he refused. In the end of it all, through the pain and suffering, God gave him twice as much as before and then some (Job 42).

Now, why am I telling you this? Because even on your worst day(s), your latter will be greater than your beginning, just as Job’s was (Job 42:12). The enemy can only mess with you for a season, before the Lord comes and rescues you. Our job is to stay the course, don’t give up, and remember that we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37).

So if you are feeling frustrated right now, and you feel you are getting beat up on every side, let’s pray this prayer together:

Father, I need you to come and help me right now. This weight of heaviness is too much for me, so God, I give it to you. It says in your Word to cast our cares upon you, so here it goes: I give [insert here what you need to give to God] to you. I will no longer carry this after this prayer. Although I may feel sad or exhausted right now, I know that my joy will come in the morning. Instead, let me take on your will for me because I know your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Give me the strength to endure until the very end so that my latter will be greater than my beginning. Thank you, God, for taking this burden from me and giving me peace. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
